Welcome to The Bahamas

The Bahamas is an independent nation, comprised of 700 islands and 2,000 cays, in the Atlantic Ocean southeast of Florida. Its most populous island is New Providence, home to the capital city of Nassau. Other favorite tourist destinations in the Bahamas include Grand Bahama Island and the less-populated string ...

Bahamas

Overview 700 Islands With Something for All With so many islands to choose from, it should be easy to find an accessible, budget-friendly tropical getaway in the Bahamas. While these islands close to Florida may be known for big resorts and cruise ships, there are countless authentic experiences to enjoy as ...

Bahamas Out Islands

Overview How to Get Out There is little in the world more inviting than the white sand and clear blue waters of the Bahamas Out Island beaches. Whether one seeks to unwind to the smell of the ocean while lounging on a beach chair or to invigorate with fins and mask exploring life beneath the surface of the ...

Eleuthera

Overview A Friendly Escape with Water Clear as Air We really love how this slinky Outer Island has slipped by as other areas of the Bahamas have been developed. On Eleuthera, which means freedom in Greek, tropical wilderness still reigns, as seen in deserted pink- and white-sand beaches and in its crystalline ...

Grand Bahama Island

Overview   Look around at the elegant resort hotels, golf courses, casino, marinas, and shopping malls of Freeport/Lucaya - and you may find it hard to believe that none of this existed when JFK was president. Faster-paced than Nassau, this cosmopolitan "second city" of the Bahamas is really only ...

My friends have raved about Atlantis Paradise Island Casino as one of the best in the Caribbean. It's apparently huge, and has Cain at The Cove where you can actually gamble poolside! There are DJs mixing beats while people lounge on cabanas and day beds outside, so it's really the best of both worlds during a vacation. I'm dying to check it out!

Summer is almost over which means the season is about to change and in the Caribbean believe it or not, we have seasons too. Recently I have been thinking a lot about Christmas, as I am trying to decide where I want to spend the holidays. Now one thought led to another and I started thinking about the traditions that we have in Jamaica during Christmas and a special one that came to mind, but is not around much anymore is Junkanoo.Junkanoo is a type of street festival or carnival where masqueraders dress up in traditional African inspired costumes. The festival started during slavery and has continued throughout the years, but in Jamaica, unfortunately it is dwindling. I remember watching Junkanoo as a child in downtown Kingston but because the festival is almost non-existent these days I am thinking that I may want to head to The Bahamas this Christmas to getaway and also take part in their annual Junkanoo festival which is still going strong. It's a great part of the Caribbean culture that I do miss in Jamaica.

A while back my family and I visited Eleuthera, one of The Out Islands in the Bahamas. We love diving so we decided to check it out. We swam through the Current Cut, but really the tide moves so quickly that the water was carrying us through the passageway between Current Island and Eleuthera. There were so many beautiful and colorful fish and Eagle Rays. The cut is for more experienced divers, so I recommend going with a guide if you're interested in taking the ride!
