Her following is celebrity driven and far reaching, thanks to elegant designs that appeal to an array of customers. Everyone from Jennifer Aniston, to Jessica Simpson, to Kim Cattrall, Daryl Hannah and Paris Hilton all love to wear Nicole Miller. Since opening her first boutique in 1986 on Madison Avenue, Nicole’s designs are a true reflection of her effervescent personality. The flair of the original, the unique and she’s always unpredictable. My clothes are very feminine and they are very subtle and I think it’s part of why people don’t get tired of them because I think when you wear clothes that are really loud you tend to get very tired of them really fast. Everybody feels they can wear my clothes for a long time, they feel very confident in them, they feel like they look their best in them and of course we had like a huge success with the dress Angelina Jolie wore just about a year and half ago. I didn’t even know she was going to wear it, apparently the stylist sent it to her and she just loved the color so much, she said, “Well this is the dress, this is what I’m wearing.” So here we’re in Nicole Miller’s showroom and she’s chosen some wonderful dresses. This one I love. I love skin prints and I’m always trying to reinvent the skin print because you know sometimes leopard, zebras, they look a little tired and I thought this was like a really fresh approach and I think it’s so pretty and actually the other night Candace Bushnell wore this to a party. She looked really cute in that. Now this dress is from my Peruvian collection and this is actually from a Peruvian rug and I think the fabric is absolutely beautiful. You can see it like a rug weaving and I had it printed on this gold fabric. It’s amazing And then this is a really really pretty dress that Jane Seymour wore recently. She’s been wearing a lot of my clothes lately. She’s such a great figure and she’s so beautiful, she just looks so good in everything. Can you tell me what I’m wearing? Well your dress is stretch metal in Lycra and it’s this very amazing fabric which is made in Italy in this little factory and I buy up all the production so nobody else has this quality of metal fabric and I think it’s so amazing, so forgiving, it makes everybody look about 10 pounds thinner. The minute I put it on, I was like, “Oh that’s my butt.” You look so great in it. I love it on you. Thank you. I love wearing it and I’m also wearing shoes from Nicole Miller. I think it should be a little shorter on you. Yeah. Let’s go up, a little shorter.

Fashion Maven Nicole Miller Shares Her Inspirations

If you're in the winter of a drab clothing crisis, look to Nicole Miller to breathe some life into your wardrobe. Miller, a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, not only has a degree in fine art but was also trained in classical couture at the Chamber Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne. This double skill-set distinguishes her from other designers in the industry who haven’t formally explored the aesthetics, and every day practicality, of ready-to-wear art.

Having dressed celebs including Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, Paris Hilton, Beyonce and Eva Longoria Parker, Miller's designs feature complex pieces and flattering silhouettes with vibrant colors and patterns that pop—even a little black dress will feature a high waist and pencil skirt, with an intriguing, shoulder-exposing neckline and a touch of fabric with modern motif. In 2009, a leopard stretch metal taffeta dress highlights her focus on animal prints and accentuates the collarbone with a wide scoop neck.

Though 15 freestanding stores offer everything from bridal wear, cocktail dresses, outerwear, accessories, eyewear and even men’s ties, you can find her designs at 1,200 stores worldwide, including Bloomingdale’s, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstrom, and on the covers of magazines such as Cosmopolitan, Vogue, Paper and more. Miller, also a wife and mother, makes her designs accessible to a broad range of women through a partnership with JCPenney: Nicole by Nicole Miller offers separates for under $20. There’s also a line of home goods available exclusively at Bed, Bath & Beyond. Across all her collections, the aesthetic she strives toward is sexy, feminine and refined.
