Among New York City hotels, InterContinental New York Barclay is a classic choice for chic and sophisticated travelers. Situated in Midtown East, The Barclay is near posh Park Avenue neighborhoods and within two blocks of entertainment at Radio City Music Hall and Rockefeller Center. The old-world atmosphere at the hotel once drew iconic Hollywood figures, like Marlon Brando and Bette Davis, and classic elegance still pervades the lobby and rooms today.
A stately gray limestone and granite facade distinguishes the Barclay at its Park Avenue and 48th Street location. Inside, the hotel lobby is done in a grand American style, with Colonial furniture that once belonged to America’s first president, George Washington. Elaborate flower arrangements, gold and marble accents and stately seating areas add to the ambience. Spanning 14 floors, the Barclay’s accommodations include 600 Standard and Superior guest rooms and 86 suites. Guest rooms are ornately decorated, with brocade draperies, deep wood furnishings, and plush bed linens. Toiletries from London company Floris are found in bathrooms. Each Executive Suites has a bedroom separate from the living room, while Junior Suites have integrated sleeping and sitting areas. All rooms and suites have mini bars and safes. Complimentary Internet access is available in the lobby and the Barclay Bar & Grill.
On-site dining at Barclay Bar & Grill includes buffet and a la carte breakfast, as well as lunch and dinner. The restaurant is located in the hotel lobby, and offers classic American dishes, like potato crusted halibut and filet of beef. The lunch menu is a mix of sandwiches, soups and salads, while breakfast is basic continental with a few special choices, like cinnamon brioche French toast and buckwheat pancakes with pecans and whipped orange butter. Room service is also available.
The Barclay’s fitness center is stocked with cardio equipment, including treadmills, elliptical machines, stationary bikes and StairMasters, all with individual televisions. Free weights and weight-training machines are found in the gym, and personal training sessions are available. The on-site sauna and steam room invite guests to unwind and revitalize, and a variety of massages are available from the masseuse, including aromatherapy and reflexology.
Guests at The Barclay are within close range of luxury New York shopping on Fifth and Madison avenues, as well as fine dining restaurants in Columbus Circle and Midtown. The concierge is available to advise guests about Broadway musicals and plays, as well as musical performances at Rockefeller Center. The best of Manhattan’s museums, including The Museum of Modern Art and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, can be reached in minutes via public transportation.
