(Music) A Conversation with Oliver Krug Krug Champagne Room, Caesar’s Palace - We don’t have vintage on the label because we have several vintages in the bottle and the secret of Krug is that Krug is a blend of several vintages in order to maintain the top consistency from year to year. We are extremely small because we produce two bottles per thousand in Champagne and we know that the people who want rose champagne go in very selective places, it is very special.. - So how did Krug start? - Oh it started in 1843 when my ancestor Johan Joseph Krug decided to make champagne with a different taste. - Did you always have a passion for champagne? - I had the real passion for Krug…we were living next door so we were living with the sound of the bottle, we were living with the smell of the vinification and obviously that was a big part of my life. - So I’m glad to offer you the glass of our dear Grande Cuvee which is the most famous Krug, which is the flagship of the house, because it is a blend of several vintages and this champagne has a taste dimension that no other champagne have. - Salut - Cheers - To a novice, I am a champagne novice, how would you describe this, other than delicious? - I think at first it tastes like a revelation, you know it fills your mouth as an expression of flavor; it is very rich, very complex, very spicy, very unique. - Very Unique - I know that training sessions are very important for you…why does it matter so much that people be so educated about Krug? - I feel that it is very important that the people working in one of the only five Krug Rooms in the world know as much as possible about Krug and they can answer all the questions and there will be questions that their customers will ask. - And how many different Krugs are there now? - We have five main different Krugs and they all are on the list of the Krug Room and besides those five different Krugs, there are some rarities which are the older treasures kept in our cellars in France and the visitors of Krug Room will have all those treasures on the list. - Oh my Goodness so they can really come here and have something they could have almost nowhere else in the world. - That is something else that makes the Krug Room very very special. - Oh there is an interesting family tradition since we always put a few drops on the baby’s lips a few minutes after he or she is born and therefore I don’t remember that day and I am probably the only person in the world who doesn’t remember the first time I had the Krug.

These elite hideaways, which can also be found in Hong Kong, London and Tokyo, are the place to feast on phenomenal cuisine and taste the most extraordinary Champagne. The Menu: Devised by Guy Savoy, one of the most respected chefs in the world and recipient of three Michelin stars, the gourmet menu changes seasonally but always features exceptional fresh and simple ingredients. One such menu includes a six-course meal featuring Colors of Caviar, Crispy Sea Bass with Delicate Spices, Poisson a la Broche and Savoy’s famous artichoke and black truffle soup. Dessert options include an inspired collection of fennel, lemon, basil and white chocolate macaroons.

The Must-have: Naturally, it’s all about the bubbly at the Krug Room. Offering the full range of the Krug Champagne, the restaurant carefully pairs each course with Krug’s finest vintages from 1985 to 1995. Some of the Champagnes you can expect include Krug Grande Cuvée, Krug Rosé, Krug Vintage, Krug Collection and Krug Clos du Mesnil.
