Hot Bermuda Salsa

Sabor Dance School and Salsa Mania, Bermuda

Hot Bermuda Salsa Travel Video duration – 5.17 minutes Monday Night 6.45 pm Sabor Dance School Lessons Bermuda Travel Video Good Life - 72 hours Teresa Whitter Assistant Director, Sabor Dance School Many people think that Salsa or believe that Salsa started in Cuba, which is kind of half true, you’ve some elements of salsa that originated in Cuba but as it spread out, through LA, New York and Miami and different countries in South America, each country has its own cultural influences. Instruments, vocals, dances and what not. So, as this thing spread out, it just picked up, you know, whatever sounds that was native to the country that it came in. Angela Hayward Director, Sabor Dance School The initial way that it was produced is still behind there, so it can be quite a sultry and sexy dance, but you don’t have to have that close connection with your partner that you’re dancing with. It’s definitely what you put into it. It’s definitely the mood of the music, how the music makes you dance, you know, how it makes you feel. And you can definitely see – there’s tension on people’s faces when they walk in and after they do their class, you can see that all melting away. Friday Night, 8.15 pm Veranda Bar – Dance Lessons Travis Gilbert Instructor, Sabor Dance School Well, we have an event here at the Elbow Beach and this is Salsa Mania Fridays. We have Salsa Mania pretty much everyday of the week and if you go to BermudaSalsa.com, you can find out where we are each night. But tonight, it’s at the Veranda Bar – Salsa Mania Fridays and we refer to it as a celebration of life. We’re going to teach you Bachata in 15 seconds. It’s a new world record. I think I can do it. You know, when you go away, a lot of the time you say, “well I wanna go to a place where I can experience what it’s like to be a Bermudian or what it’s like to be an Argentinean and you know, people, tourists always say “where do I go, like, take me to where the locals go” and I think that these events are exactly what that – that’s what they are. It’s a mixture of locals as well as tourists who are enjoying watching dance, who want to just sit out and relax and have a good meal and enjoy a good bottle of wine or you want to get up and sweat like I’ve been sweating (laughs) I think it taps into a human emotion. That I think people, just like people all over the world, when they hear something funny, they laugh. When they hear good music, their body moves and when they are in a community of people who feel the same way, their soul smiles. So I think it’s just, it’s just a human consequence of what’s happening. And I think it’s happening all over the world. Friday Night 9.52 pm Hot Bermuda Salsa Life is very short. If you live a long life, and you know, like when Michael Jackson says “when you put that 9 to 5 up on the shelf, enjoy yourself” and I think that’s exactly what it is. It’s the time where we remember that life is about a celebration, it’s about connecting with people, it’s about laughing from your stomach, it’s about really dancing as though no one is looking, you know. And that’s what, that’s the message we try to deliver to everybody who is coming to the experience. Well actually, I mean, for me, I am a lawyer. You know, I am a corporate lawyer and we come from various backgrounds. There are physiotherapists and engineers and a lot of different people involved. And I think that we really connect with that release. Well right now, we’re going to dance. We’re going to dance until 12 o’ clock and you know, we all have a great time. When we stop the music, people will want to continue. (laughs)

Demonstrate your newly acquired wrapping, twirling and shuffling for your friends at home, and they’ll think you’ve just returned from a trip to Latin America, rather than a Bermuda vacation.
