At Tucker’s Point Golf Course, the game is as much about the location as it is about the course. Undulating fairways and elevated tees afford impressive views of the Atlantic Ocean and surrounding island landscapes. But high elevation also presents golfers with a natural occurring obstacle: the ever-changing wind. Nowhere else on the course is this more noticeable than on the 17th hole. From the tee, you have sweeping vistas of the ocean to your back and Tucker’s Town in the distance, as well as a whole lot of wind to contend with. Join PGA golf professional Kevyn Cunningham and Director of Golf at Tucker’s Point Jason Epstein for a tour of this showcase hole. According to Epstein, “If you’re going to play golf in Bermuda, this may well be the first and the last spot you want to see.”
Mastering the 17th hole takes a bit of planning as well as careful consideration when choosing your club. Once you’ve hit the ball past one of the big bunkers, Epstein recommends several different options for sinking the shot. Grab a 7 or 8 iron to send the ball up the hill, or take a more professional approach by using a wedge to chip it up onto the green. Whether you birdie, bogey or make par, you’ll come away from the round with a new appreciation for Bermuda’s spectacular beauty and equally demanding fairways.
